NEW MUSIC: FT. SHELLS, PINK SUITS, THE BEARING, MARIANNE DISSARD, COLDEST KILLER, KDYN & HUMBLE THE GREAT

After a brief hiatus, Kent’s New Music Friday returns, picking out some new tracks that have entered our ears in the past week!

This Friday, while you are social distancing or even heading back to work, let these new tracks from Kent artists tune your ears in to what the most musically productive county in the country sounds like right now.

We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE

SHELLS - ANOTHER ONE

Instagram @shellsmusic
Biddenden broody pop-R&B singer SHELLS has attracted deserved praise for a few years now, with the following the release of her stunning 2016 debut EP Shapes earning her bookings at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Team ‘cene saw her perform her hit song ‘Jailbird’ at the BBC Introducing’ in Kent birthday special in dartford in 2017.

Now back with her new EP ‘Colours’, SHELLS has used her a capella skills and vocal elasticity to create new single ‘Another One’. Try to listen to it just once, you can’t. Its isolated vocals capture attention before the melody jinks its way into your regular brain rotation. Delivery.

PINK SUITS - FAKE GREAT BRITAIN

Instagram: @pinksuitsband

Margate’s self-described ‘Queer Feminist Anti Fascist PoliRock Political Punk Rock & Rage Band’ Pink Suits have continued their attack on the senses with an ear bashing, society slaying, guitar distorting track of ‘new punk’ design. Likely to wake you from your lethargy and put a purposeful spring in your step, ‘Fake Great Britain’ points the painted fingernail squarely at those continuing to breed intolerance. Rousing.

THE BEARING - THIS IS US

Instagram: @thebearingmusic

Folkestone Avant-Pop duo The Bearing have released reflective and foreboding single ‘This Is Us’ as a prelude to a new project - a concept album based in a post-climate-breakdown world with tensions between citizen-led communities forming out at sea and larger governing forces let on the ever shrinking land.

The new single is inspired by the story portrayed in NBC's 'This Is Us'; stemming from an emotional journey of life, relationships and death. There is an energetic flow to it, with piano, electronics, and haunting vocals. Ruminating.

MARIANNE DISSARD - COME ON LET’S GO

Instagram @mariannedissard

Radical, sultry overhaul of 50s classic ‘Come On, Let’s Go!’ from French-born Tucson/Ramsgate chanteuse Marianne Dissard and English producer and multi-instrumentalist Raphael Mann (Art Terry/Lunatraktors).

The deconstructed rock ‘n’ roll standard by doomed star Ritchie Valens is remade as a quivering, heady mating call, oozing deviant sensuality and sexual tension. Interpretation.

COLDEST KILLER - AYE AYE (LET IT POP)

Facebook @COLDESTKILLER

Having released his album ‘Enter My Realm’ last week, North Kent’s Coldest Killer continues to show is flexibility with bars and loops of merging genres of rap/trap/grime.

A memorable and dominant premise, ‘Aye Aye’ feels like a sharp but free-flowing storm of lyrics set to formula. We can’t wait for more. Bouncing.

KDYN - THE EDGE

Instagram @djkdyn

Part of his brand new EP, dropped this year with established bass scene label Crucast, 16-year-old Kent DJ KDYN has created ‘The Edge’.

A young DJ who clearly knows what he wants to achieve already, EP title track ‘The Edge’ has energy to burn and is definite one to watch, you can see it being dropped by Bass DJs to get tents bouncing this Spring/Summer (we hope). Vitality.

HUMBLE THE GREAT - 2AM

Instagram @humblethegreat

A voice like honey, smoothly gliding down new track ‘2AM’, Sevenoaks producer/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Humble The Great, has released a cheeky little 1min39sec track showcasing just a smidgen of his talents.

A neo-soul vibe, you could be forgiven for thinking Humble is of US persuasion, but we love the way he drops into his native Estuary accent as he says the word '“bullsh*t”. Subject matter continues to be personal experience of modern times. Passionate.
