We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE

YONAKA - SEIZE THE POWER

It would appear we are a little late to the Yonaka phenomenon. But, God I’m pleased we’ve arrived.

Dark, foreboding, alternative pop music punctuated with electronics, heavy drums and even a slice trance.

Though now working out of Brighton, captivating lead singer Theresa Jarvis hails from Folkestone, and in new single ‘Seize The Power’, the vocalist dips into the speech-heavy genres like punk and rap in what is a high energy track of blurred lines and creativity. This music gets you pumped. Uncategorizable.

HOLLOW PLANET THEORY - RAISED BY WOLVES

Instagram: @hollowplaneteer

Ramsgate’s Hollow Planet Theory is a concoction of synth-punk devised by singer-songwriter Joe Baxter-Webb and numerous other collaborators.

With traits of 80s new wave vocals and melodies with more contemporary dance and RnB sounds, Hollow Planet Theory have released their rockiest track to date ‘Raised By Wolves’. Synthy keys give way to aggressive vocals and heavy beats. There’s a bit of Marilyn Manson mixed with Depeche Mode in there somewhere. Complex.

DAVID GOTSOUND - HIT THE SPOT

Instagram: @davidgotsound

Every time you listen to Bexley-based artist David GotSound, you are treated to something different. Such a wide range of musical skills has seen him leave behind the Golden-Era style hip-hop of previous release ‘December’, as David heads firmly back into UK style with ‘Hit The Spot’.

Over a trap beat, it’s intense, aggressive and, with what is fast becoming his trademark, packed with venom-laced flows.

Spilling over with high level sports metaphors, David GotSound is hitting nothing but net with this one. Winner.

PAPERFRIEND - MY LIFE’S WORK

Instagram: @paperfriendband

Maidstone emo-tinted alternative rockers Paperfriend have returned with a dreamy pop-rock number, centred around moving on from a person who has held you back for years.

Acoustic guitar, backed by a light drums are suddenly replaced by a heavier cacophony of distortion-led metal-style guitars and hurting vocals. The Paperfriend crew are always inventive and ‘My Life’s Work’ is no different! Emosh.

MIMI WEBB - REASONS

Much talked about 20-year-old singer-songwriter Mimi Webb continues to garner both new fans and critical acclaim, and new track ‘Reasons’ is only going to add in.

Influenced by Adele and Amy Winehouse, Mimi has such a distinctive voice, jam packed with soul and personality. ‘Reasons’ has hints of soul melody, Latin beats and even a touch UK indie-pop.

Strong lyrics nailed by an addictive chorus line will will capture you. Compelling.

DUTCHKID - LEMONADE

Instagram: @dutchkidmusic

Ahead of their debut album release later this year, Kent-based collective, Dutchkid, kick off 2021 with ‘Lemonade’.

Showcasing their unique brand of stylish electronic pop, Dutchkid crashed through 8 million streams and ended the year highlighted in BBC Introducing’s ‘Best Of 2020’.
Having recently signed to US powerhouse Ultra Music we are expecting an even bigger 2021.

‘Lemonade’ delves into the popular pastime of people watching, taking the point of view of an older man watching a group of young guns strutting past. The lyrics are phenomenal, and we particularly like the baggy clothes and ‘man purse’ descriptions. They paint a picture beautifully. Vision.

DOHNY JEP - LOOKING IN

Instagram: @Dohny_Jep

Kent-based alternative-rock four-piece Dohny Jep are starting to get tongues wagging with their unique video concepts and mesh of pop-synth melodies and rock guitars. Following their self-released debut album L.U.S.T in July 2020, the group put Covid-hit tour plans behind them, and headed back to the studio to record upcoming EP ‘Smile, It Might Never Happen’, due for release February 26th 2021 via Favour The Brave Records.

Mastered by Rhys May, assistant producer to Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Don Broco, While She Sleeps), the EP explores the subjects of mental health, friendship, and letting go of the negatives in your life and living in the moment.

The band say that the EP’s leading single ‘Looking In’.. “is about feeling left out and neglected, wanting to be included but also struggling to make these feelings known, causing you to never really get anywhere”.

The heavier rock genre is back and burning bright, with Dohny Jep adding the premium jet fuel to light it up further. Explosive.
