Starting this Sunday 31 January, performance artist Stacy Makishi and Creative Folkestone present the Church of Latter Day Sinners.

This unique online experience is a congregation like no other that explores what it means to be a human being in 2021. Everyone is welcome at this digital Sunday service, as it offers a different kind of communion where people can come together to share joys and sorrows, do uncool dancing, and share life experiences.

Artist, Stacy Makishi is a transplant from Hawaii who found paradise in London in 1994. Like a bonsai plant, she is small but old and has been making art for over 30 years.

Mixing theatre, comedy, film and visual art, her work is as complex as it is accessible; humorous as it is challenging; visual as it is literate. It ranges across solo performances for stage, large-scale outdoor participatory projects and intimate one-to-ones. For Church of the Latter Day Sinners, Stacy is taking her art online and everyone is invited.

Church of the Latter Day Sinners is presented as part of Normal? Festival of the Brain which is co-curated by Creative Folkestone, Living Words and Folkestone Fringe. This weekend see’s the first festival weekender take place with an online programme of events and activities exploring the brain and mental health and wellbeing. The weekender includes talks with neuroscientists, personal portraits and a new film by friend of the festival Byron Vincent.

The Church of the Latter Day Sinners will congregate online via Zoom every Sunday from 31 January until Sunday 7 March. It is free to take part but registration is essential. You can book your place via the Creative Folkestone website. Visit www.creativefolkestone.org.uk/whats-on for more information.
