The Bao Baron - Now Found in The Goods Yard on Folkestone Harbour Arm

The Harbour Arm (@FolkestoneHarbourArm) has undergone quite the transformation over the years to become one of the county’s most loved hotspots of the street food army.

There’s the Big Greek Bus (@thebiggreekbus), with everything from gyros to meze platters, to Baba Ji with its Indian-style street food, while the renowned Docker Bakery (@dockerbakery) continues to rise to the occasion with bready brilliance.

That Burger (@thatburgerkent) offering up some of the best burgers this side of the Atlantic to Sole Kitchen (@_solekitchen) with its impeccably British seaside favourites mixed with international flavours can also be found.

Harbour Coffee Co. (@Harbourcoffeeco) has got your cuppa sorted or head to the Lighthouse Champagne Bar for something a little extra special.

Tucked snugly away in the old waiting room, is the Harbour Arm’s versatile bar, the aptly named Waiting Room (@waitingroomfolkestone). Neither cafe nor pub, it is a space where performance, music or quite frankly anything could happen.

But out on the front you can go and see Laura from @wildboxevents, one of the newest traders, to learn more about the incredible cocktail experience she's bringing to the Arm.

At Dr Legumes (@drlegumes) you’ve got plant-based food based on a health conscious and sustainable approach to eating, while every pizza-lover’s dream Dinos (@dinosfolkestone) brings you perfected Neopolitan and New York style bases with both classic and innovative toppings - pistachio pesto and mortadella anyone?

And don’t forget, one of our favourites from last year, @thebaobaron who now has a permanent home in the @goodsyardfstone.

And vegan ice-cream lovers will melt at the sight of the Hungry Hippy (@thehungryhippyfoodco) ice cream menu.

We could go on and on, so why not check out https://folkestoneharbourarm.co.uk/ for the whole shebang.

RAMSGATE PROMENADE MARKET

The old Belgium Bar, then Green Tara, has been transformed into the Ramsgate Promenade Market (@RamsgatePromenadeMarket) by Andy Barrett, the man behind Margate’s Old Kent Market.

Vendors include The Dog House (@TheDogHouseandGrill) serving up craft hot dogs and burgers, and Food on Focus (@foodonfocusuk) offering European influenced cuisine.

It’s still early days and eventually the aim is to have 16 different producers, with juice bars, coffee roastery, vegan cuisine, smoked meats and much more.

OLD KENT MARKET, MARGATE

The unmistakable Old Kent Market (@oldkentmarketreal) is packed full of treasures to eat and drink. The Greek Kitchen (@thegreekkitchenmargate) offers banging chicken, beef or veg pittas with moussaka, yemista and all the dips, while the Mamma Mia Pizzeria (@mammamiapizzeriamargate) dishes up the three ps of authentic Italian - pizza, puccia and pasta.

There’s authentic Italian street food from Il Pakkero (@il_pakkero_ashford), so look out for the Arrosticini lamb skewers - traditional cuisine from Abruzzo - as well as their tasty woodfired pizzas. And for those with a sweet tooth, their pistachio and vegan tiramisù, Sicilian cannoli or pizza with Nutella will be right up your street.

CENTRAL MARKET, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

Central Market (@centralmarketUK) will open its doors again next Monday - finally - after previously being unable to open due to Covid.

A pergola covered courtyard, which is stunning at night, is surrounded by a gaggle of gourmet street scoff outlets.

Frankie & Fries (@frankieandfries), which is currently running a takeaway and delivery service, bangs out roti flatbread rolls crammed with chicken tikka or paneer and sweet and sour sauce paired with fries loaded with keema peas or chicken bhuna and other treats.

Greek Street Food (@stakssouvlakibar) gives hungry foodies a taste of real Souvlaki street food and for ethical chocolate look no further than Goupie (@goupiegroupies), who have brought a bit of Willy Wonka fun from their Goudhurst chocolate factory to the market.

THE SUN DECK, MARGATE

If there’s a more picturesque street food hub in Kent, we are yet to find it.

The Sun Deck (@thesundeckmargate) on Margate beach offers great views, great drinks, great music and, of course, great street scoff.

And this year, the popular beachside spot has been playing host to the Sundeck Supper series, a unique experience dreamed up by self-confessed fire starter Julian Brown (@julianbrownevents) in which everything is cooked on live fire in front of customers.

It involves five chefs, five courses and, of course, some fire, all overlooking the main sands.

Also down by the Sun Deck is Canterbury’s Pork & Co (@porkandco) with its baps at the ready while the Po’ Boy (@poboycreole) Creole Fish Hut offers the likes of samurai prawns in panko breadcrumbs with Japanese slaw and srirancha mayo, as well as a great section of tofu-based masterpieces.

And for caffeine heads, Garage Roasted Coffee (@Garageroasted) brings its commodities to the Margate masses.

Finally, the Bus Cafe (@thebuscafe) has got the breakfast and brunch street food scene on toast… literally and figuratively… as they won Best Breakfast in the UK in 2019.
