NEW MUSIC: FT. FENNIE, APHRAH, DELTA SLEEP, THE DRYAS, SKIES & LADY BIRD
We have six new tracks from Kent artists for this week’s New Music Friday
This Friday, while you are social distancing or even heading back to work, let these new tracks from Kent artists tune your ears in to what the most musically productive county in the country sounds like right now.
We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE
APHRAH - ARE YOU THERE
With a collection of new music promised for 2020, electronic pop purveyor Aphrah has released ‘Are You There’, a track produced by Rhiannon Mair (Lanta, Bryde) from Palm Bay Music down in Thanet.
WIth shades of Hurts and vocals likened to Florence & The Machine, the synth sonics illuminate an exploration of grief and loss - grass roots alt pop at its magnificent best.
After Aphrah’s ‘Another Night’, was picked up by Spearhead Records producers The Vanguard Project, to deliver a potent drum and bass remix - resulting in over 70k Spotify streams to date - we can’t help but feel that the ethereal vocals and hook will lend themselves to another up-tempo banger.
FENNIE - BLACK 2020
Ashford artist Fennie has returned with a beautifully crafted, poignant and must-hear track, ‘Black’.
Challenging, thought provoking and emotive, Fennie gives us his on experiences as well as his vision of the past, present and future surrounding the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
The pain is real and the words are real, so listen.
DELTA SLEEP - THREE GHOSTS - AGEAN SEA, TU
Math-rock band Delta Sleep have continued their ode to instrumental performance with their latest release ‘Three Ghosts’.
Known for their releases on UK rock label Big Scary Monsters, always thoughtful and oft mellow, Delta Sleep know their craft and always manage to carve beautiful narratives from chilled melodies. It is a a two-minute song that is technically sublime and effortlessly catchy.
THE DRYAS - MAKE YOU MINE
Out of the embers of Folkestone band Native People, The Dryas have come bounding with a bundle of new tracks including ‘Boy’ and their latest release ‘ Make You Mine’.
A love song with a 2020 twist, the track has the electronica/synth elements of an M83, but with a very Gary Numan hook.
LADY BIRD - BEEP BEEP
The TW trio are just so good at grabbing your ears and making you fu*king listen. The narrative they always manage to portray is so vivid and colourful, but alway with a deeper, very real meaning. From their brand new EP ‘Brainwash Machine Setting’, new track ‘Beep Beep’ is no different. Dip your face into it and think on. Subversive punk is very much alive.
SKIES - IT’S ALRIGHT
Pop-punkers Skies have had a ridiculously productive lockdown with multiple live streamed sessions, and now, new music.
‘It’s Alright’ is another outstandingly well produced piece of work that Alie Cotter and Jericho Tozer have become synonymous with. Strands of emo, early noughties skate punk and the good bits of The 1975 are neatly rolled up into a pocket rocket duo that continue to make Kent proud. Cracking track.
