NEW MUSIC: FT. REBECCA GARTON, KAVANAGH, LIV AUSTEN, CRANGON CRANGON, JACK LIGHT
We have five new tracks from Kent artists for this week’s New Music Friday
This Friday, while you are social distancing or even heading back to work, let these new tracks from Kent artists tune your ears in to what the most musically productive county in the country sounds like right now.
We have added all tracks to the ‘cene #KeepitKent Spotify Playlist HERE
REBECCA GARTON - ALL ME (FT. LOUIS REI)
Sidcup R&B artist Rebecca Garton is seeing the fruit from a year of studio work with the release of new single, ‘All Me’. Signed last year to a Universal Records sub label, the singer is in the creative mix with industry pros that have leant their talents to like of Beyonce, Ariana Grande and Drake.
One for the girls, ‘All Me’ is seductive and has got a finely polished groove.
“My focus is making women feel good”, said Rebecca in a recent interview on BBC Introducing in Kent. And she has got her style nailed.
Teaming up with rapper Louis Rei (of WSTRN fame) on this particular record, Rebecca’s list of notable collabs on forthcoming music, just shows that the artist is making real moves. Watch this space.
KAVANAGH - SHE STOLE THE SUN
With a 90s Britpop vein running all the way through, Kavanagh make creamy distortion and an addictive hook their primary tools on latest track ‘She Stole The Sun’. This is ‘listen again, and again’ music. Working with the Thanet-based Moon Age Collective it’s great to see the Kent coast group back releasing work in 2020. We cannot wait for more.
LIV AUSTEN - COME FIND ME (WHEN YOU WANNA TALK)
Norwegian born, Chiselhurst-based singer/songwriter Liv Austen has been described as the ‘Princess of UK country pop’.
Her new track ‘Come Find Me (When You Wanna Talk)’, has roots in both country and soul, with a fleck of R&B vocals. While her influences have a more traditional country sound (Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain), Liv is definitely bringing a new sound to the genre. An album is to follow this year.
CRANGON CRANGON - WAIT FOR THE GONG
With the title track off their debut EP ‘Wait For The Gong’, Margate-based Crangon Crangon are some kind of fantastic musical impresarios. Like a complete theatrical performance in one, the track is a magical mix of imagination, experimentation and electronics.
‘Synth escapism’ is how it has been described, while we are also told that the group spent last year finding their feet with improvisational jams and making a ‘solar powered sound system allowing them to take their music out into the environment’. It is exhilarating. Must listen.
PHILTR & JACK LIGHT - KENOBI
Wow. A house beat with a trance overtone, mixed with lyrics from Kent rapper Jack Light… based around Star Wars. That is not a sentence I ever thought i’d write. DJ PHILTR is steering the ship on this track and, just like when the Imperial March strikes up, you know something has you in its sights and is coming to take you over. It’s astoundingly genius.
