LOCKDOWN COLLECTIVE KEEPS CREATIVES CONNECTED
A creative Instagram account has captured the imagination and talent of locals by showcasing the arts
The Lockdown Collective (https://www.instagram.com/lockdowncollective_/ ) Instagram account was created in response to the recent global outbreak of COVID-19.
Founders and curators Beatrice King and Jamie-Jean O’Beirne say the account was created in order to “keep people connected, creative, inspired and distracted during this period of isolation.”
The account, which has gained 744 followers in little more than a week, provides a “positive safe space for artists, makers, poets, musicians, photographers, dancers and writers to showcase their work via social media”, and many local creatives have already taken them up on the offer with the platform, so far, putting out 175 posts.
“We have already had two artists who connected through the page create a wonderful collaboration- with hopefully more to come,” say the Lockdown Collective.
“During this uncertain time we witnessed a lot of artist friends suddenly find themselves out of work or away from their studios and we wanted to find a way to promote their work and to also keep them inspired and actively creating things.
“We think it’s incredibly important for your mental wellbeing to stay positively occupied during times of uncertainty such as now. Social media isn’t always a positive place to immerse yourself in but the lockdown collective hopes to change the way we use social platforms and the way we connect with each other.”
“We have been overwhelmed by the response to the page so far and we have had creatives submit from all over all the world. Keep on creating and watch this space.”
