SLAVES CURATE LINEUP FOR WHEELS AND FINS FESTIVAL
Kent-based punkers Slaves have curated the Main Stage lineup for Wheels and Fins festival on Saturday 7th September
Wheels and Fins, the boutique music and action sports festival based at Joss Bay near Broadstairs, has announced that Kent punk-rock duo Slaves will headline and curate the lineup for ‘The Lighthouse’ Main Stage on Saturday 7th September 2019.
As heady as the music that Slaves makes themselves, Laurie Vincent and Issac Holman have handpicked a bill of breaking talent fit to blow the speakers into the North Sea including, Willie J Healey, Lady Bird, Queen Zee, Para Fiction, Hockeysmith, FEET, MarthaGunn, and Ditz.
For fans of the UK’s underground and emerging talent scene, this is not to be missed. Weekend and day tickets are on sale priced from £70 and £40 respectively and are available from www.wheelsandfins.co.uk.
Wheels and Fins Founder Dave Melmoth said: “Having Slaves involved was a total no brainer for us. With the success of The Libertines curating the lineup in 2018, we needed something energetic, credible and in your face - and there’s no denying that Slaves are that band. Personally, I love a bit of punk plus these dudes are from Kent so they’re the perfect fit for the festival - it’ll be sick to see them rock out on home turf. Watch out for this one, it’s going to go off!”
Slaves’ mix of rap, punk and rock captured the nation’s attention when they dropped their debut single ‘Where’s Your Car Debbie?’. Snapped up by Virgin EMI shortly after, the Royal Tunbridge Wells lads went on to release more of their unique sounds in ‘Hey’ and ‘The Hunter’, culminating in a prestigious slot on Later… with Jools Holland, a nomination for BBC's Sound of 2015 and a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their debut album, ‘Are You Satisfied’. Following with two further Top 10 albums, Slaves have firmly established themselves with their punk-like attitude and genius lyrics.

Switching up the sounds omitting from The Light House stage is Willie J Healey who’ll bring a more laid-back Americana indie vibe to the proceedings. Jamie T is a fan and a recent collaborator, and having already supported Slaves on tour, he’ll feel right at home with them at Wheels and Fins.
Lady Bird
Also no stranger to their headline curators are Lady Bird. Slaves snapped up the rising Kent trio’s debut record ‘Social Potions’ for the first release on their Girl Fight Records label. Lady Bird’s injection of playful punk to Wheels and Fins coupled with their loyal local following makes for a great addition.
Breaking band, Liverpool’s Queen Zee have also been handpicked to play and will bring a glistening set that will seamlessly straddle punk and queer indie pop. Duo turned solo artist Hockeysmith also features with her slick songs that marry synth-pop textures with R&B and a post-punk edge, evident on ‘Lonely Loving Me’ that made The Line Of Best Fit’s Song Of The Day. Adding a flavour of wonky Britpop to this fantastic lineup is FEET, an NME ‘Radar’ band with debut album on the horizon.
FEET
The one-to-watch talent continues with Brighton’s finest represented.
They include the punk / hip-hop hybrid duo, Para Fiction, who’ll give Slaves a run for their money when it comes to cranking up the decibels; five-piece band MarthaGunn who’ve just completed a string of headline shows in preparation of releasing debut single, ‘Saint Cecilia’; and finally from Brighton, hardcore / thrash punk outfit, Ditz who’ll dial up the energy they’ve showcased playing alongside acts such as LICE and Pulled Apart By Horses.
The Festival
Taking place over two days in September - Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th - Wheels and Fins combines the best bits of skate and surf culture with quality live and electronic music.
Noisia
So far, the 2019 lineup includes a Hospital Records Takeover with drum ‘n’ bass legends, S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Logistics, Nu:Tone and more, and spanning all things electronic, a Ministry of Sound Takeover featuring Noisia, Redlight, DJ Zinc, Barley Legal plus other leading names.
Just 90-minutes from central London and with stunning views out to sea, a plethora of activities such a SUP racing and surf competitions can also be found at this hidden gem of a festival.
Adult day tickets start from £40, weekend tickets from £75, or a VIP experience with access to the VIP area, private bar and luxury toilets costs from £80 for the day, or £150 for the weekend.

Add an extra £20 to any ticket and camp or invest in a glamping ticket and dwell in a stylish bell tent or Moroccan yurt for the weekend, all with striking ocean views of Joss Bay. Children’s tickets are also available starting from £6 for the day or £12 for weekend.
