OUTDOOR TRIO PERFECT FOR SUMMER
We have found three outdoor experiences dotted across Kent, perfect for relaxing, action and one for the kids
FOR THE QUIET
For peace and tranquillity, it’s worth having a look at Romney Marsh Shepherds Huts. Found under the most spectacular open skies, with stunning views, you can get close to nature on the farm in the heart of the beautiful Romney Marsh.
The Lookerer and Romwold huts both have their own special story and have been built specifically using original 1900’s plans.
The huts are completely self-contained, with a cosy double bed, kitchen with hob and outdoor fire pit (perfect for toasting marshmallows over!) and toilet and shower room.
You’ll also find Romney Marsh lanolin toiletries and sheep fleeces to keep you warm on the cooler evenings. The Romney Marsh has many seasons and is renowned for the glorious desert-like warm summers as well as the mysterious ‘Marsh Mist’.

FOR THE LITTLE’UNS
Margate-based First Hand Experiences is a local children’s social enterprise that specialises in reconnecting children with nature.
Founded by former teachers Justin and Louisa Baker in 2014, First Hand Experiences provides inspiring experiences anchored in the natural world and celebrates nature through arts and craft, music, theatre and ‘ground-up’ cooking sessions. Their new off-grid home, Gather Green, is on an organic farm surrounded by 10 acres of ancient woodland.
Both for younger children (aged 3 to 10-years-old) staying the day or older ones taking part in their sleep away adventures (8 to 14-year-olds), it is time to explore the private woodland to take part in forest school activities aimed at building participants' confidence, independence and creativity.
Armed with natural treasures from their woodland exploration, children learn to weave, mould, sculpt, paint and build using natural materials.
FOR THE FUN
Joe’s Bows provides Kent with falconry, archery, axe throwing and other traditional country pursuits with experience days for individuals, corporate functions and even stag and hen parties.
You can pick from swing archery, target archery and field archery and there is an exciting 3D field archery course, as well as cross-bow shooting, Megaboom archery (we don’t even know what that is, but it sounds ridiculously great) and slingshots – all in a woodland setting at Mount Ephraim near Faversham.
If birds are more your thing, falconry experiences offer you the opportunity to get close to birds of prey in their natural surroundings.
Meet a selection of owls, hawks, kestrels, buzzards and even hooded vultures.
