CALLING ALL PRINTMAKERS - Dickens 150 now open for exhibition entries
In 2020, Medway will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Charles Dickens. To mark this Rochester Art Gallery will be hosting their first Print Open Call exhibition 10 April - 28 June 20, as part of the Medway Print Festival
The exhibition will show works submitted by amateur and professional print makers who have created pieces inspired by one of the Dickens-related themes below. The competition is open to anyone who makes prints to enter and includes an under 21s category for young people and children, too.
The Open Call is not restricted to just Medway makers and we welcome applicants from anywhere. There will be prizes for the winning entries in each category which will be chosen by a panel of judges.
Subject to space the team will exhibit at least one work by each entrant so there’s a good chance your work will be include in the exhibition!
The printmaking parameters include any kind of hand printed new work from linocuts, etchings, screen prints and letterpress to monoprints and hand printed textiles or ceramics. Prints will be exhibited alongside beautiful Victorian funerary treasures and Dickens items kindly loaned from the Rochester Guildhall Museum collection.
So whether you’re an experienced artist or new to the medium you are welcome to enter and taking part is completely free! The deadline for online entries is Friday 31 Jan 20.
