CREATE MUSIC VILLAGE RETURNS FOR 2024

Line-up includes Deptford Northern Soul, Aled Jones, Dulicima, Riskee and the Ridicule, Pink Suits and Glen Matlock

October is the new August for the festival season as Create Music Village, Ashford’s month-long Grass Roots Music Festival, announces its line-up for 2024.

Shows will be hosted by four core live music venues - Revelation, Low Key Taproom and Coachworks - plus seven fringe venues in the town centre.

Diverse, eclectic and just pure fun, with events for everyone from grime punk with Riskee and the Ridicule, Cuban-Afro funk fusion with Afrobeat and dance-floor fillers with Deptford Northern Soul to queer punk from Margate’s Pink Suits and everything in between.

Fancy something a bit more mellow? No worries, Ilumetris perform their new piece Here be Monsters, billed as fiery virtuoso jazz - or maybe Aled Jones’s Full Circle is more your style, with his amazing career spanning 40 years. Meanwhile, pianist Dulcima, former singer with Kent faves Coco and the Butterfields, headlines at the RG Studios fringe venue.

But it doesn’t stop there - there will be free family-friendly workshops and community performances, including a day of world music at Ashford Bandstand, curated by Ashford Massive collective as part of the Create Fringe, plus the Create Microshorts Film Competition inspired by Kent musicians past and present.

Create has also announced its first Artists in Residence with Sophie Stone and Thomas Green as they create a new piece inspired by the sounds of Ashford - listen online and at selected locations throughout October.

There’s still time for local artists to get involved as the Low Key Taproom hosts regular Create Introducing nights, showcasing new and emerging artists - follow them @lowkeytaproom to find out what’s coming up, or apply to perform if you’re a local performer or band.

The festival kicks off at Revelation on 27th September with ex-Bellowhead legend Jon Boden and the Remnant Kings launching their new album Parlour Ballads. On 28th September punk pioneer Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols and Rich Kids) will be in conversation with BBC Radio 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins.

WHEN: 1st-31st October 2024
