I AM THE EGGMAN : EGG, EGG 'n' EGGY - Graffiti
Have you seen the happy egg graffiti appearing all over the county? Well, we have and we managed to track down the artist behind them. In an anonymous conversation we asked what eggs-actly it was all about.
Thanks for talking to us. What do you like to be known as?
Just Eggs or The Egg Man. Or whatever you want lol.
Perfect! Next Question... Why eggs?
Oooh why not. I like simplicity. Easily relatable. Especially ones that smile.
Have you always been a graffiti artist or did the egg idea poach you from another profession?
Me? I do graff, but just got bored of all the bullsh*t and egos that come with it.
Most graff just adds to the bad side of a person's day; they don’t wanna see scruff tags all over everything!
The whole idea of the egg is to hopefully break someone’s bad thought process.
Modern life has put too much pressure on people. Irrelevant of Corona, people are struggling, angry and upset! Our government is against us instead of for us and is enabling us as humans to destroy our amazing planet and each other's minds alike.
Eggs are a light hearted image to push across the simple message of ‘smile more and be kind towards each other and to look after what we have’.
But I’ll still bomb it like I’m 15, bunking the train home from school!
Nice answer! How do you choose your locations, or are they just scrambled?
Hahahahaha yep! But I’ll paint anywhere really as long as it’s fun!
The vans on the bridge above the M2 are very Prominent... what’s your favourite?
Of my eggs, certainly not them. They were rushed (5 minutes, I was in a rush). I might actually redo them and spend some time on it.
Favourite? Oooh maybe one I have in Brixton which reads “I Heart EGGS” and in the heart it has ‘SW9’, which is the local postal code.
But I have loads (I think two dozen in egg terms) up high next to Thornton Heath Station (the main line to Brighton/Heathrow).
Actually, there’s one that I really like. It was an ‘I Heart EGGS’ on a freight train, the same week as the Beirut explosion and in the heart it said ‘Beirut’.
Do you do other work?
Also written by me is ‘Help the Homeless’ and ’Save our NHS’. Most writers won’t put up anything that could be deemed as political, as they might get buffed (cleaned off) but I don’t care as I want to spread a message!
