‘The Orchestrated Unconsciousis a multi-channel video installation encompassing modulated vocals, animations and sculpture exploring time, velocity and labour.

Enacting as a transportation device, the installation gathers speed rhythmically, pulsating into a crescendo, drawing parallels between the stretch of time between the industrial and post-industrial.

Further exploring the human-machine relationship of ‘timekeeper’ and ‘apparatus’ kinetic motifs echo the speed and acceleration of time. The momentum of such propelling towards what is approaching, a route into the unknown.

Liz’s work encompasses visuals, whether static or moving, as well as explorations into sound.

A graduate from the Royal College of Art, her practice explores relationships between industrialisation, technologies and print. Using site visits to research, write and produce works ‘The Orchestrated Unconscious’ was conceived in partnership with Hitachi Rail Ltd over the past seven months to produce a body of work which responds to the industrial heritage of Ashford and its relationship to labour, connectivity, repetition and dissemination.

In recent months Liz was awarded the first completely digital art commission for ‘Art in Manufacturing’, the headline-commissioning programme for the National Festival of Making (Supported by Arts Council England, Creative Lancashire and Deco Publique).

In recent years her work has been shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, Stanley Picker Tutorship and selected as ‘One to Watch’ by editor in chief for ‘After Nyne’ magazine. Notable awards include Arts Council Development Funding (2020), The Augustus Martin Print Prize, Eaton Fund, YLCE Award, University for the Creative Arts Professional Development Grant and the Pushing Print Solo Award and Bursary. Her most recent exhibitions include Taoxichuan Museum of Art, China and Parc de la Villette, Paris.

The Orchestrated Unconscious has been produced in collaboration with Hitachi Rail Ltd.

It is co-commissioned by Coachworks, Quinn Estates and Ashford Borough Council.
