With huge crowds forecast on Ramsgate Sands to watch incredible freestyling from some of the UK’s top kitesurfers, this year’s event is shaping up to be even bigger and better.

And once again, Active Ramsgate, an initiative of Ramsgate Town Council designed to bring new visitors into the town, will be hosting the thrilling final leg of the Championships, taking place on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Around 70 competitors from all over the UK will all be competing for the title of National Freestyle Kitesurfing Champion on 24th and 25th August on Ramsgate Main Sands. There will be a host of other activities too from music to free kitesurfing taster sessions for visitors.

Any kitesurfer of competition standard can enter. For more information on how to enter visit www.britishkitesports.org

Not only that, there will be plenty on offer for spectators, including the highly popular free kitesurfing taster sessions taking place on the beach, demonstrations and trials on the water, as well as a variety of stalls, creating an event suitable for all the family.

Dr Cheryl Mvula, project manager of Active Ramsgate says: “Last year was such a successful event, not only were there lots of people on the beach watching fantastic performances from the kitesurfers, but many tried out the sport for themselves for the first time.

“We even had some local winners, and all in all, it really secured Ramsgate as one of the UK’s leading kitesurfing destination. So we’re thrilled to be hosting the Championships again this year, and making the event even bigger than before.

“There will be plenty of stalls along the Sands, and we’re teaming up with various local businesses to make this an event which the whole town can get involved with.”
